Buy now, wear now has been one of the focal mantras to radiate from fashion weeks in recent seasons and it appears that the High Street has jumped on board for their Spring collections. Although it seems that the Fall 2016 shows in the major cities have only finished, many large retailers have responded quickly with trends direct from the major presentations and shows in their Spring collections. Thanks to the unbelievable speed of manufacturing processes and trend forecasting retailers can now respond to what they see on the catwalk almost immediately.
The question that abounds now is whether design houses will respond to this quick turnaround. Will designers aim to shorten the length of time between when a collection is marched down the runway to where it lands on the shop floor? Rather, will they continue to rely on their premium label and price tag to set them apart from the High Street?
Will the premium customer revert to the trademark bag or shoes that cannot be imitated in cheap plastic?
If I were a dedicated premium customer I can’t imagine that I would desire shelling out €3,000 on that showpiece if I had seen a version earlier in Zara for €70.
Here are some High Street pieces that I have spotted that seem very closely inspired by runway counterparts:
